US Engineering company KBR has been selected under an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract to develop the fourth 5 Mt/year LNG train at the Freeport LNG project in Texas (United States). The signing of the fixed price EPC contract will be concluded within the second quarter of 2019 and will be followed by a Limited Notice to Proceed (including early engineering and commitment of critical long lead equipment orders). It is expected that full notice to proceed will occur in the second half of 2019.
On August 2018 the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the commissioning of the first liquefaction train of Freeport LNG, which is expected to enter in service between September 2019 and May 2020. The project's startup date was delayed in April 2018 due to the Harvey hurricane which flooded equipment lay-yards.
The Freeport LNG terminal initial project included three liquefaction trains of 5 Mt/year each (cumulated capacity of 15 Mt/year). The second train is expected to enter into service in the first quarter 2020, while the third train should be commercially launched during the second quarter 2020. So far, the capacity from the first three liquefaction trains has already been contracted under several LNG supply agreements with several buyers such as Osaka Gas, JERA, BP, Toshiba and SK E&S LNG.
