Freeport LNG (US) granted extension to complete 5 Mt/year Train 4 project by 2031

Freeport LNG has received a 40-month extension from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to complete its Train 4 liquefaction project in Brazoria County, Texas (United States). The new deadline, set for 1 December 2031, gives the company more time to resume construction, which was delayed by a June 2022 explosion that temporarily shut down the facility.

The extension provides added flexibility for Freeport LNG to secure commercial agreements and complete the project. Train 4 is expected to add 5 Mt/year of LNG export capacity to the terminal’s existing three trains, which currently operate at a combined 15 Mt/year. Once completed, the facility's total nameplate capacity would increase to nearly 20 Mt/year.

Freeport LNG is the second-largest LNG export terminal in the United States, representing approximately 15% of the country’s liquefaction capacity.
