Freeport LNG has announced that the first liquefaction train of the Freeport LNG project in Texas (United States) would come onstream nine months later than initially expected due to the Hurricane Harvey which flooded equipment lay-yards. It will enter service in September 2019, while the second and third trains will be ready in January and May 2020, respectively.
The Freeport LNG terminal initial project includes three liquefaction trains of 5 Mt/year each (cumulated capacity of 15 Mt/year), which are currently under construction. So far, the capacity from the first three liquefaction trains has already been contracted under several LNG supply agreements with several buyers such as Osaka Gas, JERA (the joint venture of Japanese companies TEPCO and Chubu Electric), BP, Toshiba and SK E&S LNG. A fourth 5 Mt/year LNG train is under consideration and could be commissioned in 2023-2024.
