France's natural gas regulated tariffs have increased by 1.2%

The French energy regulatory (Commission de Régulation de l'Énergie or CRE) announced the increase of domestic natural gas regulated tariffs by 1.2% in average (excluding taxes and transmission tariff contribution) starting from 1 October 2017. Prices have risen by 0.4 % for consumers using gas for cooking, by 0.7 % for consumers using gas for cooking and hot water and by 1.2 % for households using gas for heating.

This is the first increase in regulated tariffs since March 2017; it is due to the increase in the gas price on the wholesale markets. Since January 2014, regulated tariffs have dropped by a cumulative 19.5% on average.

Regulated tariffs have been threatened since the French Council of State (CoS) announced the cancellation of a May 2013 decree and said the current tariffs hurt competition principles and infringe the EU regulations.
