The French energy group Engie has signed an 11-year sale and purchase agreement (SPA) starting in 2021 with Cheniere Energy to buy 0.4-1.2 Mt/year (0.5-1.6 bcm/y) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Corpus Christi LNG liquefaction terminal (US).
Earlier in November 2021, Sinochem entered into a 17.5-year binding LNG SPA with Cheniere Energy. Under the deal, Sinochem agreed to buy an initial volume of 0.9 Mt/year (1.2 bcm/y) starting in July 2022, which will increase to 1.8 Mt/year (2.4 bcm/y).
In 2020, France imported 17 Mt (23 bcm/y) of LNG, mostly from Russia (23%), Algeria (22%), Nigeria (22%) and the United States (14%). In 2015, Cheniere signed a 5-year SPA starting in 2018 with Engie for the delivery of 12 LNG cargoes/year from the Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi LNG liquefaction terminals on an ex-ship basis primarily to the Montoir-de-Bretagne LNG regasification terminal in France.
