France's Engie acquires an 882 MW onshore wind project in Bahia (Brazil)

Engie, through its affiliate Engie Brasil Energia, has agreed to acquire the 882 MW Serra do Assuruá onshore wind project in Gentio do Ouro (Bahia) from PEC Energia for a total consideration of BRL265m (US$52m). The transaction comprises 24 wind project development grants, a leasing contract, wind measurement tower data and other assets.

In December 2021, the state-owned Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) awarded financing worth BRL1.5bn (US$260m) to Engie for the first phase of the 434 MW Santo Agostinho wind project, covering around 64% out of the total investment in the project. The project, located in the municipalities of Lajes and Pedro Avelino in Rio Grande do Norte (north-eastern Brazil), will comprise 70 Siemens Gamesa-made wind turbines rated 6.2 MW each.

Wind accounts for nearly 10% of Brazil’s installed capacity with over over 17 GW (2020).
