EDF has released its 2024 results, in which the French energy group posted €11.4bn net profit, an improvement over 2023, when net profit reached €10bn. The group's EBITDA declined slightly, from €39.9bn in 2023 to €36.5bn in 2024, due to a decreasing market price environment according to EDF.
At end-2024, EDF’s total net installed capacity (including shares in associates and joint venture) reached nearly 125 GW (+2 GW compared to 2023), with 54% of nuclear, 18% of hydro, 13% of renewables, 9% of gas, 3% of fuel oil and 2% of coal. EDF’s global power generation increased by 11% to 520.3 TWh, including 78% of nuclear (404.2 TWh, a 11% rise in nuclear power generation year-on-year), 17% of renewables (+22%, notably thanks to a nearly 30% growth in hydropower generation), 5% of gas (-10%) and less than 1% of fuel oil.
In France, nuclear generation increased by about 13% to 361.7 TWh. EDF’s hydro output in mainland France reached 50.6 TWh in 2024 (+30.5%), while the group’s wind and solar output stood at 31 TWh in 2023 (+11% compared to 2023).
The company’s number of customers increased by 1.5% in 2024 to 41.5 million in France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Belgium.
