France could extend gas transmission pipeline from Dunkerque to Germany

France's main gas transmission network operator, GRTGaz, is considering extending Arc de Dierrey, a new gas pipeline from the Dunkerque LNG terminal to Germany. GRTGaz is currently building the 300-km gas pipeline between Cuvilly (Somme) and Voisines (Haute-Marne), aimed at improving gas transportation between the south zone and the north zone in France. The €635m pipeline will be connected to EDF's 13 bcm/year Dunkerque LNG import terminal, currently under construction and expected in 2015. The Arc de Dierrey pipeline would be commissioned in November 2015 (first phase). It could be extended to Germany, which has no LNG terminal - though gas imports from the Zeebrugge LNG terminal in Belgium and the Gate terminal in the Netherlands are possible - and relies on Russia for 36% of its gas imports. The second phase, connecting the pipeline to existing pipelines to Obergailbach (German border) and Oltingue (Swiss border), would occur in November 2016.
