FortisBC seeks EIA approval for LNG expansion project in Canada (2.5 Mt/year)

The Canadian energy company FortisBC has filed an Environmental Assessment Application with the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO) in Canada for its Tilbury Phase 2 LNG Expansion Project. Located in Tilbury Island in Delta, British Columbia, within the existing Tilbury LNG facility, the project aims to provide reliable energy with the construction of a new LNG storage tank (with a working volume of up to 142,400 m3) and to serve emerging markets for LNG as a lower-carbon fuel such as for marine fuelling with the construction of an additional liquefaction capacity of up to 2.5 Mt/year, natural gas receiving facilities, and supporting infrastructure. The project has entered a 180-day Review period led by the BC EAO, with a 45-day public comment period. If approved, construction is expected to start as early as 2026.

FortisBC Energy is a regulated utility focused on providing safe, reliable and affordable energy, including natural gas, renewable natural gas and propane. FortisBC owns and operates two LNG storage facilities and approximately 51,600 km of gas transmission and distribution lines.
