Fluor and JGC win FEED contract for LNG Canada expansion (Canada)

A joint venture between US-based Fluor Corporation and Japan’s JGC Holdings Corporation has been awarded the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract for the proposed Phase 2 expansion of the LNG Canada facility, in Kitimat, British Columbia (Canada). The duo, which secured the EPC contract for Phase 1 in 2018, will now update the FEED to support further development.

LNG Canada, located on Canada’s west coast, will have a production capacity of up to 14 Mt/year from two liquefaction trains under a 40-year export license, with full capacity expected to be reached in 2026. It is the first major North American LNG facility with direct access to the Pacific. Phase 2 would add two trains, increasing processing, storage, and shipping capacity. LNG Canada and its five joint venture partners — Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and KOGAS — have not yet reached a final investment decision (FID).

In July 2025, the facility shipped Canada’s first LNG export cargo to Asia. Two other Canadian LNG projects are under construction: Woodfibre LNG (2.1 Mt/year), expected in 2027, and Cedar LNG (3.3 Mt/year), a JV between Pembina Pipeline and the Haisla Nation, targeted for late 2028.
