Fluence Energy secures 254 MW/1 GWh BESS project in Germany

Fluence Energy has signed an agreement for the construction, delivery and long-term support of Vattenfall’s 254 MW/1 GWh Brunsbüttel BESS in Brunsbüttel, Germany (Fluence Energy press release, 14/10/2026).  The project is planned for development at the site of a nuclear power plant currently being decommissioned.

Under the agreement, Fluence is expected to supply its Gridstack Pro 5000 platform, comprising battery systems, power conversion equipment and an energy management system. Additionally, the company will also provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), commissioning and long-term support. Construction is scheduled to start in 2027, with commissioning planned by the end of 2028.

The project represents Vattenfall’s largest battery project to date, and it is expected to nearly double its existing BESS capacity.
