Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm (UK) secures consent

The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted development consent to the Five Estuaries offshore wind park, located in the British North Sea (United Kingdom) (British Government press release, 18/12/2025). The project, an extension to the Galloper Wind Farm, will generate over 300 MW and includes offshore turbines, foundations, cables, and both offshore and onshore substations with connection to the National Grid. Construction should start in 2027 and commissioning is scheduled in 2030.

The project is led by RWE on behalf of partners (RWE 33.33%, Macquarie consortium 25%, ESB 20.83%, Sumitomo 20.83%). Electricity will be transmitted ashore via subsea cables to a point near Sandy Point, Essex, then underground to a new substation west of Little Bromley, joining the East Anglia Connection Node on the Norwich–Tilbury corridor.
