The Fitzpatrick NPP acquisition deal is completed (US)

The US power utility Exelon Corporation has acquired the 813 MW James A. FitzPatrick nuclear power plant in Scriba, New York (United States) from the US energy company Entergy for US$110m.

Entergy announced in August 2016 it intended to shut down the plant in January 2017. However, the Clean Energy Standards (CES) were adopted in the meantime and the power plant will benefit from it since nuclear is explicitly recognized as a crucial zero-CO2 source to meet climate change targets. Thus, the facility completed a maintenance and refueling outage in February 2017 and will be able to run for another operating cycle.

The New York Power Authority has agreed to transfer the decommissioning trust fund and liability for FitzPatrick to Entergy. The transaction also received approval from the relevant authorities, namely the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the New York State Public Service Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
