FirstEnergy sells 11 hydropower plants (527 MW) in the US

FirstEnergy subsidiaries have applied for authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to sell 11 hydroelectric power stations in Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia to Harbor Hydro Holdings, a subsidiary of LS Power.

The hydroelectric power stations included in this proposed sale are owned by FirstEnergy Generation, Allegheny Energy Supply and Green Valley Hydro and have a total capacity of 527 MW, which represents less than 3% of FirstEnergy's generation fleet output. The sale includes 451 MW Seneca Pumped Storage in Warren and 52 MW Lake Lynn in Lake Lynn, Pennsylvania; the nine other plans have a capacity of less than 10 MW.

A sales agreement was reached on 23 August 2013, and if approved, the proposed transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of the same year. The agreement is subject to customary and other closing conditions, including FERC, the Commonwealth of Virginia's State Corporation Commission and various other approvals.
