First turbine firing at the 1.7 GW Mintia CCGT power plant in Romania

The first gas turbine of the Mintia gas-fired power plant in Romania has started to run on natural gas, paving the way for further tests, grid synchronisation and delivery of electricity into the national power system.

The EUR1.2bn Mintia power plant, currently under construction on the site of the former Mintia coal-fired power plant, will include two Siemens Energy gas turbines with a combined capacity of 1,100 MW, and will expand to 1,700 MW when a steam turbine will be commissioned, enabling the power plant to operate in combined cycle.

The project, which is expected to be fully operational in 2027, is developed by Mass Global Energy Rom.
