Steelhead LNG is considering developing a major gas liquefaction project at Sarita Bay, in British Columbia (Vancouver Island, Canada) and has signed an Opportunity Development Agreement with the Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN). The Huu-ay-aht First Nations have just approved the project by referendum, which means the project can move forward.
The Sarita Bay LNG project will consist of the development of a 24 Mt/year LNG project on HFN-owned land on Vancouver island. The project would consist of four 6 Mt/year liquefaction trains and would include an option for an additional fifth 6 Mt/year train along a pipeline route. It will be developed within the frame of a license to export up to 24 Mt/year of LNG for 25 years.
The total investment is estimated at US$30bn and the project has been approved previously by the Canadian National Energy Board in October 2015 together with the neighbouring 6 Mt/year Malahat LNG project.
