LNG Canada (14 Mt/year) prepares to ship its first LNG export

LNG Canada (a JV between Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Kogas) has produced its first LNG for export from Train 1. The production is expected to be mainly sold to the Asian market, and the export cargo is expected to be loaded by the end of June 2025. The facility, located in Kitimat, in British Columbia (Canada) is expected to reach a total capacity of 14 Mt/year once fully operational in 2026. Shell and its partners are currently working towards reaching an FID to double the capacity of the facility. The project represents the first large-scale Canadian LNG facility to start production and the first major North American facility with direct access to the Pacific coast.

Canada has two other LNG projects in construction: the Woodfibre LNG (2.1 Mt/year) expected to be commissioned in 2027, and Cedar LNG (3.3 Mt/year), a joint venture between Pembina Pipeline and the Haisla Nation with a commissioning expected in late 2028.
