Finland’s Ilmatar will build a 550 MW solar park in southern Sweden

Ilmatar Solar AB, a subsidiary of Finnish company Ilmatar Energy, will build a 550 MW solar park in the municipality of Motala, in the Östergötland region of southern Sweden. Ilmatar Solar is working alongside Swedish consultancy company Vinnergi to advance the project towards construction. Vinnergi stated that it has already received a favourable initial estimate from Sweden’s TSO (Svenska kraftnät) and that the permit process and electricity network issues are fully underway.

In late August 2022, Ilmatar also announced it would build the 450 MW Tönnersjö solar farm, located in Halmstad, Halland county, southern Sweden. In 2021, solar represented 4% of Sweden’s installed capacity with 1.6 GW and 1% of its power generation with 1.6 TWh. Sweden added 470 MW of solar capacity in 2020 and 392 MW in 2019.
