The Government of Finland will provide €65.2m in energy subsidies for 3 small LNG terminals to be build in Finland for a total cost of more than €200m. The combined maximum operating capacity of the 3 terminals will be 0.45 Mt (600 mcm).
Manga LNG Oy (a joint venture of Outokumpu Oyj, SSAB, Skangass Oy and EPV Energia Oy) has been awarded €33.155m for the construction of a terminal at Röyttä Harbour in Tornio, including a storage capacity of 50,000 cubic metres of LNG. Due to be completed in 2017.
Skangass Oy (Gasum holds 51% and Lyse Energi holds 49%) have been awarded €23.441m for the construction of a terminal at Tahkoluoto Harbour in the Port of Pori, including a storage capacity of 30,000 cubic metres of LNG. It is set to be up and running in autumn 2016.
Oy Aga (Linde Group) have been awarded €8.619m for the construction of a terminal in the Port of Rauma, including a storage capacity of 10,000 cubic metres of LNG. Work on the terminal is set for completion in early 2017.
In addition to the 3 projects currently under way, the Government of Finland is also handling applications for investment support from Haminan Energia Oy, LNG Finland ry, and Containerships Ltd Oy. A comprehensive decree on these three applications is intended to be issued in 2014. The large-scale regional LNG terminal planned for construction in Inkoo, Southern Finland, does not fall under the remit of the national aid programme.
These new terminals will help facilitate a move to significantly reduce the industrial use of fuel oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in Finland.
