Final turbine installed at the 759 MW HKN offshore wind park (Netherlands)

The renewable project developer Crosswind (a joint venture between Shell and Eneco) has installed the final wind turbine at the 759 MW Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore wind park, located off the coast of the Netherlands. The wind project comprises a total of 69 turbines of 11 MW each supplied by the German manufacturer Siemens Gamesa. Offshore construction of the project began in October 2022, while wind turbine installation started in April 2023. The Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind park produced its first power in late June 2023. It is scheduled for completion by the end of 2023, after the final testing and commissioning works are completed. When fully operational, the project is expected to generate at least 3.3 TWh/year.

The Netherlands targets 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 70 GW by 2050. As of end-2021, approximately 2.5 GW of offshore wind energy had been fully commissioned (3.2 GW in 2022 according to preliminary estimates). Currently, more than 2 GW of onshore and offshore wind power are under construction in the Netherlands, and nearly 13 GW are under development.
