UK battery storage developer Field has achieved financial close for two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the United Kingdom, increasing its construction pipeline by 239 MW/1 GWh of flexible storage capacity.
The first project, Keith, is a 39 MW/200 MWh battery storage facility. According to a company executive, it is among the longest-duration BESS projects to have reached financial close in the UK. The facility is expected to ease congestion across the heavily constrained B4 transmission boundary in Scotland, a major transmission bottleneck in the central part of the country. The Keith project will use a battery system supplied by Chinese energy storage company Sungrow and is due to enter commercial operation in 2027.
The second project, Hartmoor, has a capacity of 200 MW/800 MWh and is designed to deliver additional grid flexibility in Northeast England as offshore wind generation continues to grow and existing power generation assets are retired. The project is expected to facilitate the integration of the Dogger Bank wind park, while strengthening grid support as EDF Energy’s Hartlepool nuclear power station moves towards decommissioning. The battery storage system for Hartmoor will be provided by Envision Energy, and the project is scheduled to be energised in 2028.
