Fermi America sends application for 4.4 GW nuclear project in Texas (US)

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has accepted for review initial portions of a combined license application from Fermi America to build and operate four Westinghouse AP1000 reactors in Carson County, Texas (United States). Each pressurized water reactor has a 1.1 GW capacity for a combined 4.4 GW nuclear capacity to be part of the greater 11 GW President Donald J. Trump Advanced Energy and Intelligence Campus, also known as “Project Matador”. Fermi plans to start the construction of the nuclear part of the project by 2026, aiming to start operations of its first reactor by 2032.

The 11 GW project consists of a hybrid energy infrastructure comprised of nuclear, solar and gas-fired power generation with BESS to support data infrastructure located next to the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Pantex Plant, the US’ primary nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility.
