The FERC has endorsed the US$2bn Nexus gas pipeline (US)

The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given final approval to the US$2bn Nexus gas pipeline project which is expected to spread over 410 km and deliver 42.5 mcm/d of gas from the Marcellus and Utica shale gas deposits (Ohio, United States) to markets in southern Michigan (United States) and Ontario (Canada).

The FERC has been unable to approve pipeline projects in the last months, as the commission lacked the three members needed for a quorum. This order is one of the first to be issued by the FERC's new quorum.

The facility is scheduled to become operational in 2018. The project is being developed by Nexus Gas Transmission LLC, a new company organized under Delaware laws with its principal place of business in Texas which is jointly owned by subsidiaries of Spectra Energy Partners LP (Spectra Energy, 50%) and DTE Energy Company (DTE Energy, 50%). The Nexus pipeline will be operated by Spectra Energy Nexus Management, LLC, a 100% subsidiary of Spectra Energy.
