The FERC approves the 2 GW Massachusetts Ocean Grid project (US)

The US power transmission company Anbaric Development Partners (ADP) has received an approval from the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the development of the 2 GW Massachusetts Ocean Grid power transmission project in Massachusetts and New England (United States).

ADP may now proceed and solicit customers to sell transmission rights for 2,000 to 2,400 MW in offshore wind transmission capacity. The first phase of the project is estimated to be built by December 2021, while the full system is expected to begin operations in 2025. Once built, the line will be a transmission backbone to support offshore wind developers that currently hold Federal leases in the Atlantic as well as future ones who would emerge in the next years. In August 2016, Massachusetts passed the Energy Diversity Act that requires state-regulated utilities to acquire 1.6 GW of offshore wind power by June 2027.
