Falck and BlueFloat secure grid connections for 2 floating wind projects (UK)

Falck Renewables and BlueFloat have secured grid connections for two floating wind projects in the Celtic Sea (United Kingdom). The projects will each have an installed capacity of 300 MW. The Llywelyn floating wind project will be located off the coasts of Pembrokeshire in Welsh waters, while the Petroc floating wind project will be located off the coasts of Devon in English waters. They are expected to be commissioned in 2027-2028.

In November 2021, the Crown Estate published proposals for floating wind leasing in the Celtic Sea, seeking to unlock 4 GW of new offshore wind capacity in England and Wales. The proposals include a focus on early-commercial scale projects (around 300-350 MW) and on full-commercial scale projects (up to 1 GW). The leasing process would award the first rights by the end of 2023 for projects commissioned between 2030 and 2035. The United Kingdom targets 1 GW of floating wind capacity by 2030.
