Falck and BlueFloat plan a 1.3 GW floating offshore wind project in Italy

Falck Renewables and BlueFloat Energy will file, on behalf of the company Odra Energia, the documentation required to start the authorisation process for a 1.3 GW floating offshore wind plant off the southern coast of the province of Lecce (southern Italy). A request for the maritime concession will also be filed with the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Port System Authority of the Southern Adriatic Sea. The project is expected to produce 4 TWh/year.

Earlier in October 2021,  Falck Renewables joined forces with BlueFloat Energy for the development of floating offshore wind parks off the Italian coast. Partners will start of the authorization process for the first project, located in the waters off Brindisi (Puglia); the Kailia Energia project is expected to have an installed capacity of around 1.2 GW, which would generate around 3.5 TWh/year. The two companies will file the necessary documentation process with the Ministry for Ecological Transition to start the authorisation for the project and submit a request for a maritime concession to the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Port Authority of the Southern Adriatic Sea. Italy has currently no offshore wind capacity.
