ExxonMobil will take FEED decision on Far East LNG (Russia) later in 2019

Russian and US oil and gas companies Rosneft and ExxonMobil plan to take a decision on the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the Far East LNG project on the Sakhalin Island (Russia) later in 2019. Slated for commissioning in 2023, the terminal will have a total operational capacity of 6 Mt/year (8.1 bcm/year).

The commissioning of the US$8bn plant and offshore facilities has been postponed several times as Rosneft is experiencing certain problems in accessing the Sakhalin II gas pipeline owned by Sakhalin Energy (shareholder 50% Gazprom) to export its LNG. Rosneft, which would hold 80% in the project, and ExxobMobil (20%) are still holding talks on gas supply from the project. The LNG plant would use gas from the Sakhalin-1 license area, which is operated by ExxonMobil under PSC terms as it main fuel source. Discussions are under way regarding potential of feeding the gas to the third liquefaction train of Gazprom's Sakhalin II export project.
