ExxonMobil selects EPC contractor for a 10 bcm/year H2 project in Texas (US)

ExxonMobil has selected Worley to provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services for the enabling works, infrastructure and interconnect scope of a "blue" hydrogen and ammonia facility project on the site of its chemicals and refining complex in Baytown, Texas (United States).

Unveiled in early 2023, ExxonMobil's Baytown hydrogen project would produce 1 bcf/day (over 10 bcm/year) of hydrogen from natural gas, making it one of the largest facilities in the world. Over 98% of the associated CO2 produced by the facility, estimated at 7 MtCO2/year, is expected to be captured and permanently stored, which should enable an up to 30% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from ExxonMobil’s Baytown integrated complex. In addition, it would produce 1 Mt/year of low-carbon ammonia.

The EPC contract is subject to final investment decision (FID), supportive government policy and necessary regulatory permits. Pending FID in 2025, the project could be commissioned in 2029.
