Exxon Mobil has lifted force majeure on its Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique. Work had been paused after French oil major TotalEnergies declared force majeure on its separate LNG project in 2021 due to security concerns in the country. Exxon and TotalEnergies’ projects share some facilities, and TotalEnergies resumed its operations in October 2025.
- Exxon continues to expect a final investment decision in 2026, with first LNG production targeted for 2030.
- The company used the delay to refine Rovuma’s design, now projected to produce up to 18 Mt/year, up from the original 15.2 Mt/year.
Project partners include China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC), Korea Gas (Kogas), Italian energy company Eni, and Mozambique state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).
