ExxonMobil commissions its 250 kb/d Beaumont refinery expansion in Texas (US)

The US oil and gas company ExxonMobil has commissioned its 250 kb/d Beaumont refinery expansion project, located in the south-eastern part of the US state of Texas. The US$2bn expansion project, whose construction started in 2019, increases the total processing capacity of the Beaumont refinery to more than 630 kb/d, making it one of the largest in the United States.

The Beaumont refinery belongs to an integrated petrochemical complex, which produces various refined products such as premium and regular gasoline, low sulfur diesel fuel, jet fuel, liquid petroleum gases, fuel oil blendstock, petroleum coke and petroleum feedstocks. In 2018, ExxonMobil increased production of ultra-low sulfur fuels at the refinery by approximately 40 kb/d with the installation of a selective cat naphtha hydrofining unit, to remove sulfur, while minimizing octane loss.

ExxonMobil’s refining throughput was 4 mb/d in 2022 (+4% compared to 2021) and sold 5,347 kb/d of energy products (+4%). At the national level, the US’ refining capacity stood at 18,462 kb/d at the end of 2021.
