ExxonMobil books LNG regasification capacity at Wilhelmshaven (Germany)

The German energy group Uniper has signed a Heads of Agreements (HoA) with oil and gas company ExxonMobil on the long-term booking of a substantial share of regasification capacity at Uniper's LNG import project in Wilhelmshaven (Germany). Discussions are expected to continue in the coming months with the goal to enter into binding agreements.

In December 2018, Uniper signed an agreement with the Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Line (MOL), under the terms of which MOL will own, finance and operate a 10 bcm/year floating, storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with a 263,000 m3 storage capacity. The FSRU could be commissioned as early as the second half of 2022. Uniper expects to develop the FSRU as a multi user facility and has entered discussions with other companies that expressed serious interest in the project's regasification capacity.

The FSRU would benefit from the existing infrastructures in the Wilhelmshaven port, in particular gas pipeline and gas storage infrastructure. Besides, the location is the only German deep-water port and can be reached without any tidal constraints.
