ExxonMobil Moçambique, on behalf of the Area 4 co-venturers, has awarded pre-investment contracts for the 18.6 Mt/year Rovuma LNG Phase 1 project in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. The awards cover critical long-lead upstream equipment and early site construction activities, and are intended to support the project's progress toward an FID (ExxonMobil press release, 17/08/2026).
The USD1.1bn contracts include the engineering, procurement and manufacturing of subsea production systems, large-bore production valves and offshore line pipes. The largest contract was awarded to OneSubsea UK and OneSubsea AS, supported in-country by Aker Solutions Mozambique, for subsea production systems, controls and umbilicals.
Additional contracts were awarded to Advanced Technology Valve for large-bore production valves, Corinth Pipeworks and Sumitomo Corporation of America for line pipe manufacturing and Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals for mechanically lined pipes and associated line pipe systems. According to ExxonMobil, awarding these contracts before FID is intended to help secure critical equipment and optimise project execution schedules.
The Rovuma project involves the development of offshore gas resources in Area 4, with the Area 4 consortium comprising ENH, CNPC, Eni, KOGAS, XRG and ExxonMobil.
