The US power utility Exelon Generation has reach an agreement with Engie to purchase the 10.7 bcm/year Everett Marine LNG import terminal in Boston (United States). The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals from the US Department of Energy for LNG import authorization and the Department of Justice and is expected to be closed in the fourth quarter of 2018. Built in 1971, Everett LNG is the longest-operating LNG import facility in the US and has connections with two interstate pipeline systems. It was acquired by Engie's subsidiary Electrabel in 2000.
In addition, Exelon Generation has announced that it would retire the last operating units of the 2,000 MW Mystic gas- and oil-fired power plant in New England, US) in June 2022, namely Mystic-7, Mystic-8 and Mystic-9 and Jet. Mystic 1-6 units are already decommissioned. The purchase of Everett LNG will enable Exelon to ensure the continued reliable supply of fuel to Mystic-8 and Mystic-9 while they are operating. The units will also not participate in the US Forward Capacity Auction scheduled for February 2019.
