EVN awards contract for its 1.6 GW Quang Trach II LNG power plant (Vietnam)

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has awarded an EPC contract for the development of the 1,612 MW Quang Trach II LNG power plant in the province of Quang Tri, Vietnam (Nang Luong, 09/02/2026). The US$974m deal was awarded to a consortium led by PowerChina and Lilama. The gas-fired facility will consist of two 800 MW units that will be provided by GE Vernova. Once operational, the power plant should produce up to 10 TWh/year for the national electricity system.

In September 2024, the Quang Trach II LNG project received the governmental approval to be developed in Central Vietnam (KEI, 12/09/2024).

Vietnam had a total installed capacity of almost 90 GW (end of 2024), of which about 10% corresponds to gas (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
