The Danish renewables developer Eurowind Energy has announced plans to develop a 1.2 GW onshore wind project in northern Romania’s Botosani County. The project will involve the installation of nine wind parks across nine Romanian communes. The required investment for the project is estimated at over €1bn. The project is expected for completion in 2031. Eurowind Energy Romania has already secured land rights, submitted a grid connection application, and obtained initial urban planning certification for the project.
Eurowind Energy is currently developing two projects in Romania scheduled to start operation in 2025, namely the 60 MW Teius solar PV plant and the 48 MW Pecineaga wind park.
Wind capacity soared in Romania between 2010 and 2014, from 460 MW to 3 GW, and has remained stable since then, with nearly 3.1 GW at the end of 2023 (100% onshore).
