According to the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), a total of 12.8 GW of wind capacity was connected in the European Union in 2015, including 9,766 MW of onshore capacity and 3,034 MW of offshore capacity.
This represents a 6.3% increase over 2014 and 44% of new power installations in the EU countries; including solar PV (8.5 GW installed in 2015) and other renewable energies, renewable energies accounted for 77% of all installations in 2015 (22.3 GW out of 29 GW). Total wind capacity in the EU now exceeds 142 GW (130 GW in 2014), including 131 GW onshore and 11 GW offshore, and covers more than 11% of the region's electricity consumption. Investments in new wind parks increased by 40% in 2015, reaching €26.4bn.
Germany accounted for nearly half of all installations, with 6,013 MW installed during 2015, followed by Poland with 1,266 MW (reaching 5.1 GW), France with 1,073 MW (to 10.4 GW) and the United Kingdom with 975 MW (to 13.6 GW).
