European PV market expected to range between 119 and 156 GW in 2018

According to forecast by European PV Industry Association (EPIA), the total installed capacity of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Europe could reach between 119 and 156 GW in 2018, starting from 81.5 GW at the end of 2013. In the best case, the 100 GW mark could be reached by 2015 in Europe. Annual capacity additions have been slowing down since 2011 (over 22 GW), with less than 11 GW installed in 2013. Recent changes in feed-in tariffs could limit the amount of new connections to around 8-9 GW in 2014; competitive PV in several key countries could maintain the market at around 10-12 GW after 2015.

Global capacity additions totalled 38 GW in 2013; in EPIA's low scenario, they could remain stable at 35 GW in 2015 and 2016 and progressively increase to reach 39 GW installed in 2018. In the high scenario, annual capacity additions are expected to soar to 52 GW in 2014, 62 GW in 2017 and 69 GW in 2018.
