Slovak power utility Slovenské Elektrárne will receive a temporary public service obligation (PSO) from the Slovak electricity regulator to provide from 870 GWh/year to 1,100 GWh/year of electricity from indigenous fuels sources (i.e. coal) to the Bystričany node of the national electricity grid. The PSO was approved by the European Commission (EC).
The Slovak State found that the Bystričany node is insufficiently connected with the rest of the Slovak electricity grid. The PSO will be in place until the completion of investments to strengthen the power grid but no later than the end of 2023.
Slovenské Elektrárne's compensation will cover the difference between its revenues from the sale of electricity and other services and its production costs. The utility will provide power from its four operating units of the Nováky subcritical coal-fired power plant, totalling 266 MW of available net installed capacity.
