EU Commission awards €647m to key energy infrastructures

The European Commission has approved a €647m investment to support 34 key priority energy infrastructure projects, including 16 projects for gas interconnections and LNG import projects and 18 projects for electricity interconnections and smart grid projects. The Gas Interconnection Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) project will receive €295.4m, while the Kilingi-Nömme - Riga power transmission line will receive €112.3m. A new power transmission line between Ventspils, Tume and Imanta in Latvia will receive €55.1m. Other significant grants include €31.3m for the NSN interconnection project between Norway and the United Kingdom, €33.8m for a gas transmission line between Cluden and Brighouse Bay in Scotland (United Kingdom), €31.7m for the development of smart grids in the North Atlantic Green Zone (Ireland and United Kingdom) and €27.6m for the construction of the Klaipeda-Kursenai gas pipeline in Lithuania.
