The European Commission has granted 235 cross-border energy projects the status of Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) – marking the second such list since the initiative’s launch in 2023. The selected projects will be eligible for EU funding through the Connecting Europe Facility and will benefit from expedited permitting and regulatory processes to ensure swift execution and delivery (European Commission press release, 01/12/2025).
The list of selected PCIs and PMIs includes:
- 113 electricity, offshore, and smart electricity grid projects to integrate the growing share of renewables.
- 100 hydrogen and electrolyser projects.
- 17 carbon transport infrastructure projects to support the development of the carbon capture and storage market.
- 3 smart gas grid projects aimed at digitalising and modernising the natural gas network.
- The continued inclusion of 2 long-standing projects connecting Malta and Cyprus to the mainland European gas network.
Following today’s adoption, the PCI and PMI list will be submitted to the European Parliament and the Council. Both co-legislators have two months to either approve or reject the list in full, but they cannot amend it.
