ETPL plans to set up a 12 bcm/year LNG import terminal in Pakistan

Elengy Terminal Pakistan Ltd (ETPL), a joint venture of Vopak LNG and Engro Corporation, has invited expressions of interest (EoI) to develop its first onshore LNG import terminal in Pakistan. The regasification terminal would have a capacity of 1.2 bcf/d (12.4 bcm/year) and a storage capacity of up to 480,000 m3. Commissioning is expected in 2023.

ETPL operates the first floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) in Pakistan, with a capacity of 6.5 bcm/year, which was commissioned in 2015. It has an LNG contract with Qatargas to import 2 bcm/year of LNG over a period of 15 years starting from 2015.

Pakistan aims to triple its LNG import capacity. New LNG import terminals are planned in Port Qasim, including a 7.6 bcm/year FSRU by Engro, which could be commissioned before 2021, a 7.6 bcm/year FSRU by Energas and Exxon expecte in 2021, a 7.8 bcm/year FSRU by Tabeer Energy, and a 2.1 bcm/year FSRU by Trafigura.
