Equinor, Petoro and TotalEnergies have made an oil and gas discovery in exploration well 30/8-7 S Grimsnes near the Oseberg field in the Norwegian North Sea (Equinor press release, 14/10/2026). The well was drilled by the Deepsea Bergen rig, where preliminary recoverable volumes are estimated at 19-50 mboe (3-8 mcm).
The partners plan to tie Grimsnes back to the existing Stjerne subsea installation, which is connected to the Oseberg Field Centre and the Oseberg Transport System to the Sture terminal. The discovery is likely to be developed with two or three wells in a standard four-slot template. Procurement of subsea production equipment is planned for early 2027, ahead of project sanction. An investment decision is expected as early as summer 2027, with production within three years.
The production license PL 190 is owned by Equinor Energy (50%), Petoro (40%) and TotalEnergies EP Norge (10%). The licence was awarded in 1993 and contains the Tune field, on stream since 2002.
Equinor plans to drill 200 near-field exploration wells and deliver about 75 subsea developments towards 2035. It aims to maintain Norwegian continental shelf production at 1.3 mboe/d (about 475 mboe/year) in 2035.
