Norwegian energy company Equinor has signed a 15-year natural gas supply agreement to deliver more than 30 TWh/year (around 2.8 bcm/year) of natural gas to Uniper in Germany from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2041 (Equinor press release, 24/08/2026). According to the agreement signed with the German utility Uniper, the gas should be delivered to Trading Hub Europe, Germany's gas market area. Pricing is expected to reflect market terms, while other details remain confidential.
Alongside the gas sales agreement, the companies signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore the sale of sustainability-related attributes linked to the gas supplied under the contract. These include verified data on the gas' origin, greenhouse gas intensity and other sustainability characteristics.
The contracted volume is equivalent to nearly 3% of Germany's annual gas imports, with Germany remaining Equinor's largest natural gas market and an importer of Norwegian gas since 1977.
