EPH will buy Uniper's power assets in France

Uniper has received the approval from the French government for the sale of its power generation and sales activities in France to the Czech energy group Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH). The transaction includes a 600 MW coal-fired unit and two 433 MW gas-fired units at the Emile Huchet power plant in Saint-Avold (Lorraine), a 590 MW coal-fired unit and the 150 MW Provence 4 biomass-fired power plant in Gardanne (Provence), around 100 MW of wind and solar power plants, along with power sales activities.

The two coal-fired power plants are due to be closed by 2022 before the end of their technical operating lives, prompting Uniper to sell these assets. EPH had submitted an unilateral and binding offer for Uniper assets in late 2018. The Czech energy group, which is focusing on buying coal-fired power plants in Europe, is considering selling the two gas-fired units at Emile Huchet to Total.
