Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH) purchased the 750 MW Mehrum coal-fired power plant (located near Hannover, Germany) from Enercity (Stadtwerke Hannover AG). The purchase price was not disclosed and the transaction is subject to German merger clearance and is expected to be closed by the end of October 2017.
In the meanwhile, Enercity announced the acquisition of the German wind developer Ventotec and its 220 MW installed capacity. The transaction will increase Enercity's annual power generation from 200 GWh to 560 GWh. The company is targeting a 50% share of renewable energies in the years to come and reduce the amount of coal-fired capacity. Enercity is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Hannover AG, which is one of the largest municipal energy service providers in Germany with an annual turnover of around €2bn. Enercity operates around 2,400 employees and offers energy services and energy supplies (electricity, heat and natural gas) to approximately 700,000 people in the Hannover region (Germany).
