Czech energy group Energetický a Průmyslový Holding (EPH) has confirmed plans to develop a 2,500 MW gas-fired CCGT project on the site of its Eggborough coal-fired power plant in Goole (United Kingdom). Its subsidiary, Eggborough Power, has submitted its Development Consent Order (DCO) application for the CCGT project to the Planning Inspectorate, which will have 28 days to determine if the project meets the standards required to be formally accepted for examination. The decision is expected in autumn 2018. The project would require the construction of an underground gas pipeline and should not be operational before 2022 at the earliest.
EPH acquired the 1,960 MW Eggborough coal-fired power plant in November 2014. In September 2015, the group announced that the power plant might cease generating power at the end of March 2016. However, Eggborough Power plans to keep the facility operating until at least March 2018, after having won a government contract to provide back-up power.
