EPH finalized the acquisition of Langage and South Humber (UK)

The Czech company (Energeticky a Prumyslovy Holding) finalized the acquisition of two gas-fired combined cycle (CCGT) power plants from the British energy group Centrica in the United Kingdom for £318m (€345m). Centrica has been scrapping coal, gas and nuclear assets in recent years and is moving away from traditional energy.

The facilities, namely the Langage power plant in the Plymouth region and the South Humber Bank plant in Stallingborough, have a combined capacity of nearly 2.3 GW gross (905 MW at Langage and 1,365 MW at South Humber, where only 540 MW of which is operational).

EPH already owns several power stations in the UK, namely the 2,000 MW Eggborough and the 420 MW Lynemouth coal-fired facilities. Lynemouth stopped generating power in December 2016 under the current environmental rules but is due to be converted to burn wood pellets and reopen within 18 months. Eggborough Power, the subsidiary of EPH in charge of operating the Eggborough plant, has applied to the British authorities to demolish the coal-fired facility and build a new 2.5 GW CCGT on the site.
