EPH acquires 80% of 400 MW CCGT power plant in Ireland

EP UK, the British subsidiary of the Czech energy and infrastructure group Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH), has completed the acquisition of 80% of the Irish independent power producer Tynagh Energy from GE EFS Tynagh (GE Energy Financial Services, 40%) and GAMA Energy International (40%); Mountside Partners Limited will retain its 20% stake in the company. Tynagh Energy owns and operate a 400 MW CCGT power plant in the Galway county of Ireland.

Over the last few years, EPH acquired assets in Europe, raising its global power capacity to over 9 GW: in Slovakia, it acquired from Enel a 66% stake in Slovenske Elektrarne (4.5 GW) in 2015, a 49% stake in a regional electricity distribution company and a 49% stake in gas transit, transmission, distribution and storage companies; in the United Kingdom, the 2 GW Eggborough coal-fired power plant (closed in late 2018) and the 420 MW Lynemouth coal-fired power plant; it also acquired 4.4 GW of coal-fired and CCGT power plants in Italy, as well as assets in Hungary (gas-fired CHP) and in Germany (lignite mining and power assets). Tynagh Energy is the first acquisition by EPH in Ireland.
