E.ON announces 2014 results and focuses on restructuring (Germany)

E.ON has published its 2014 results and announced a net loss attributable to shareholders of €3.2bn, related to high impairment charges and

lower proceeds from disposals. In 2014, the group's installed capacity declined by 4%, from 61.1 GW to 58.9 GW. In Germany, capacity contracted by 512 MW, due to gas-fired and coal-fired power plant closures (-303 MW and -223 MW, respectively), to 18 GW. German power generation fell by more than 75% to 70.5 TWh, as coal-fired production collapsed (-32%) and gas-fired generation halved to 1.3 TWh. Global power generation dipped by 12% in 2014 to 215 TWh. Electricity sales rose by 5.6% (+17% on wholesale markets) but fell by 17% in Germany. Gas sales contracted by 4.8% to 1,161 TWh. In Germany, gas sales fell by 28%.

In 2015, E.ON will continue its strategic restruction and will focus entirely on renewables, energy networks, and customer solutions. It intends, in 2016, to combine its other businesses—conventional power generation including hydro and its operations in Russia, global energy trading, and oil and gas production—into a new, independent company with a new name.
