Eolus Vind applies to build the 1 GW Blekinge offshore wind project in Sweden

The Swedish renewable developer Eolus Vind has submitted an application to the Swedish Ministry of Climate and Enterprise for the construction of a 1 GW offshore wind project off the coast of southern Sweden. In addition, Eolus submitted another application for an environmental permit to the Land and Environment Court in the city of Växjö. The project would be located about 11 km off the municipalities of Karlshamn and Solvesborg and would comprise 70 turbines. If approved, the project could begin construction in 2027 and could generate 4.3 TWh/year of electricity.

Eolus Vind is building up a large portolio of offshore wind projects in Sweden and in Finland. In 2023, Eolus filed permit applications for its 1 GW Västvind offshore wind power project, located west of Gothenburg in southern Sweden, for its 1.7 GW Najaderna offshore wind project off Uppsala County, and for its 1.4 GW Arkona offshore wind project off Skåne's coast.

Sweden aims to reach an entirely "fossil-free" electricity system by 2040. In 2022, the country had 193 MW of installed offshore wind capacity and over 14 GW of onshore wind. Sweden has more than 3 GW of wind power capacity under construction and nearly 87 GW under development.
